Maui xaphoon

OK, seriously, you all need to go and get one of these, right now! It's the Maui xaphoon and it's absolutely awesome. Sort of sounds like a cross between a sax and a clarinet, sometimes with some flutish tones. Fits in your pocket, pretty much. Plus, they have a fingering chart just for screen reader users! How damn cool is that? If you don't like the sax sound, play it softer and it sort of sounds like some Middle Eastern reed instruments, the duduk comes most readily to mind. At some point soon I'll try putting up a recording. I got this a few years ago and messed with it sporadically, because I never did nail down the fingerings. They've got quite a few sound samples too, of whole songs, everything from jazz to sort of Indian inspired pieces. Plus if you do a search for xaphoon on youtube, you can turn up more fun stuff. If you're thinking, nah, saxes don't grab me really, trust me, you'd still be interested. A sax is just sort of what it most readily compares to when you really get it blowing loud. They've got a bamboo version and a plastic version, thing's about the size of a tinwhistle but much lower. Two full chromatic octaves. Go check it out, and be impressed.
